Grief As Fuel

So, I ended up jumping in the car, putting all of my concerns for safety/sanity on ice, packing the boy and his brother and set sail for Oklahoma. I wasn’t going to let my Paps die alone! Not without my blessing anyway.

To my amazement, the drive was smooth, like a walk on the beach. It was night and Cullen knew he was going to get to go to his “Mema’s House.” Two parts of the trip that saved my peace, I believe. I drove the entire way there (11 hours). We stopped twice. The thought of Pappy passing without me fueled my alertness like a Bang drink. A kind of super awake fuel. We arrived at “Mema’s House” at 6am sharp. Exhausted. But awake…
